À regarder à la lanterne
Le fonds d’autochromes
de Julien Gérardin
À regarder à la lanterne (To look at through a lanterna magica) is a catalog on a photography collection from the 1910s: more than 6,000 of the first coloured photographs made by one amateur in Lorraine (FR)! Julien Gérardin created a large collection of images picturing the region from the beginning of the century and scenes stolen from the painters of the same period. His knowledge of the colours and their combinations as well as his cinematographic eye made the creation of this book mandatory. A text by Nathalie Boulouch accompanies the chronological images, as well as a selection of the collection by the man, focusing on the way he looked at women and photographed them.

La mise en livre
de documents d’archives
For my masters thesis I focused on the use of archive documents in books. I studied 16 books created by graphic designers that use these types of documents in various and original ways. This study led me to work with a photography collection from the 1910s : more than 6,000 of the first coloured photographs made by one amateur in Lorraine (FR)!
