À regarder à la lanterne (To look at through a lanterna magica) is a catalog on a photography collection from the 1910s: more than 6,000 of the first coloured photographs made by one amateur in Lorraine (FR)! Julien Gérardin created a large collection of images picturing the region from the beginning of the century and scenes stolen from the painters of the same period. His knowledge of the colours and their combinations as well as his cinematographic eye made the creation of this book mandatory. A text by Nathalie Boulouch accompanies the chronological images, as well as a selection of the collection by the man, focusing on the way he looked at women and photographed them.
